Families Receive Medical Care Amidst a Disaster
Covered in Love
After a devastating earthquake wreaked havoc in one of the areas we serve in 2018, our in-country team left their families and homes to provide disaster aid in villages affected by the earthquake. Within one of these villages, we learned of a father's love and bravery.
At the time of the earthquake, Pak Bagus, his wife, Ibu Suria, and their two daughters (five and nine at the time) were all inside their home. When Ibu Suria felt the home shake, she did all she could in the moment. She grabbed her older daughter and ran outside.
Once out, she looked back at the pile of rubble that, only seconds prior, served as her home. She was horrified and knew that her husband and younger daughter did not make it out.
There was no sign of Pak Bagus or their younger daughter, Tini. Neighbors, who witnessed the event, rushed to help remove the wreckage. After what seemed like an eternity, the group reached Pak Bagus under the rubble.
Thankfully, just before the house collapsed, he realized what was happening and knew there was no time to get Tini out of the house. So he did what any loving parent would do—he covered her body with his own, using it as a shield to protect her as best he could.
While both Pak Bagus and Tini suffered injuries, they survived! Our team ensured they received proper medical care and attention. One doctor even informed the family that Tini would not have survived had Pak Bagus not covered his precious daughter like he did.
This serves as a meaningful reminder that we also have a good Father who protects us in times of need. He covers us and shields us from danger. We pray that your family feels covered by His love always!
