Faithful Harvesting

How a Nicaraguan farmer became a catalyst for change in his community

Before Edwin Amador crossed paths with Mission: Hope, his life was characterized by hard work on his plantations. Edwin lives in Angloamerica, a remote Nicaraguan village only accessible by a six-hour boat ride. With a wife, Adelaida, and two young children, Jeisling and Edwin Jr., to provide for, Edwin grappled with the challenges of meeting the household's needs in the face of economic uncertainty.

However, in 2023, Edwin's story took a hopeful turn. Through our Health & Wellness and Food & Agriculture initiatives, he received training in sustainable farming techniques, soil treatment, and pest management.

Armed with newfound agricultural expertise, Edwin immediately became a positive catalyst within his community. He eagerly volunteered to assist his church with their F.A.I.T.H. Garden, applying his knowledge to nurture thriving crops and bolster food security. As he delved deeper into his role, Edwin not only honed his abilities but also shared his insights with fellow village members, empowering them to adopt sustainable farming practices.

Thanks to his new knowledge, taking care of his plantations is much easier than before. Edwin is more prepared for the harvest season, and he continues to teach others what he’s learned.

For Edwin, the journey toward positive change is ongoing, fueled by a steadfast commitment to learning and sharing. He is grateful for our work in his area, as it has brought positive change to many families. Through perseverance, determination, and unwavering faith, Edwin continues to cultivate change, one harvest at a time.
